Planet Labs residency
I was honored to be invited to be an artist in residence at PlanetLabs. Planet Labs is creating a network of micro imaging satellites, with a goal of taking a complete picture of the earth, every day. It's a line scanner for a planet! While there I became fascinated with the geometry of human altered geography, and their relationship with natural formations. Many of these structures and changes are too vast to see on the ground- but when we lift ourselves into the air, their magnificence and impact- whether positive or negative- becomes clear. It's as if you are A. Square in the infamous sci-fi book Flatland, lifted off his 2-dimensional universe to see all that has ever been lengths of lines to him, revealed as comprehensible shapes. This change of perspective of satellite view, becoming an almost literal change of dimension, became the basis of my work at Planet. Thank you to everyone there who supported my work.
